RentEasy : Real Estate App for Home Owners and Renters

So, picture this: I’m interviewing for a role, and they want a fresh take on real estate design. Challenge accepted! I brainstormed RentEasy—a sleek, renter-meets-homeowner app designed to make the rental process as easy as scrolling through your favorite social feed.

Role & Contribution

I wore all the hats on this one, from wireframing and prototyping to creating a streamlined onboarding that felt welcoming. With limited screens and a tight timeline, the challenge was all about impact with simplicity. Yes even that fun logo. That was me. Multidisciplinary designer indeed.

The Brief Backstory

Did I get the job? Well… no. But I got something better—a chance to put together a concept that captured the needs of both homeowners looking to list properties and renters eager to browse them. And hey, in design, sometimes the journey is the best part, right?

The Challenge

Imagine moving to a new city and trying to find your dream apartment without a ton of headache. That’s the vision here. I wanted to craft something that anyone, from tech pros to tech novices, could navigate with ease. So, with a dash of UX magic, I designed an app that prioritized simplicity without skimping on functionality.

The Design Journey

Onboarding Flow:

Think of it like a virtual “welcome mat”—a simple, no-fuss guide through setting up preferences so renters see only what suits their needs. I wanted this flow to feel like a friendly intro, not an interrogation.

Listing Setup for Homeowners:
Simple, straightforward steps so owners could set up listings faster than brewing a cup of coffee. Got a cozy one-bedroom to list? Great, add photos, pick a price, and hit ‘list’—no endless forms required!'

Renters’ Browsing Experience:
Clean visuals, intuitive filters, and easy swiping made browsing a breeze. Need a pet-friendly place with a backyard? Done. Instant recommendations right at your fingertips.

Outcome and Lessons Learned

The app was a hit conceptually, and though it didn’t land me the job, it added a great piece to my portfolio. I got hands-on insight into user-centered design for real estate, and I’m proud of how it came together. Plus, it’s a reminder that sometimes projects become stepping stones—even if they don’t pan out the way you planned.

Future Steps 🤔
‍‍

Who says a project has to end here? Even though RentEasy didn’t make it to the big leagues (yet), I’m still excited about the idea. There’s a lot of potential to flesh out additional features—like virtual tours, personalized rental recommendations, and maybe even a chat feature to connect renters directly with owners.I may circle back to this project down the line and build out the full version. Who knows, maybe RentEasy 2.0 is just around the corner, with a fresh take on connecting renters and property owners in an even more seamless way. Until then, it lives as a “work-in-progress” in my portfolio, just waiting for the right moment to shine!
